About the winery…
Located on the outskirts of the town of Sonoma, bordering the Carneros appellation, Tin Barn was founded in 2000
by Mike Lancaster of Toronto. Mike’s first official winemaking role was with Gloria Ferrer in Sonoma, then Quail
Ridge in Napa, where he became head winemaker until 1999.
While Mike is Tin Barn’s Managing Partner & Winemaker, he is also in-demand as a consulting winemaker. An
efficient, custom-designed winery was completed in 2005, and provides an ideal facility for small-lot winemaking
that also allows him to ‘custom crush’ for a handful of premium brands — you’d be surprised to learn some of the
‘cult wines’ made here under Mike’s respected mentorship. Tin Barn also created the ‘R8 Wine Co.’ negociant
brand, providing outstanding wines designed for restaurants at approachable prices.
Tasting notes: Striking black currant and tobacco flavors mingle amid
muscular tannins, finishing with a touch of toasty oak. Enjoy this wine to
its fullest by pairing with filet mignon or oven roasted vegetables.
87 Points – Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon opens with an earthy/tar-laced nose over a
black plum and black currant core plus herbal hints. Medium to full-bodied, the palate offers plenty of muscular fruit
with a lively herbal edge and good, ripe tannins, finishing with good length if just a little straightforward.
